Nvu (pronounced N-view) is a complete open source Web Authoring System that runs on Linux, Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers. It rivals programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Nvu (which stands for "new view") makes managing a web site a snap. Best of all, it's free!
Adobe provides a wide range of web publishing products, from easy WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editing to complex site management. Appleworks (for Macs) can be used in schools with medium-high end capabilities. Even Microsoft's Word can create and publish web pages!
Another set of tools for authoring and editing on versions of Windows is the Hot Dog series at Sausage. Each item is very reasonably priced and a snap to use. The product names and the site itself are rather imaginative.
Hot Potatoes, an authoring tool based on XML, was originally designed for generation of puzzles and quizzes. The Hot Potatoes suite is a set of six authoring tools, created by the University of Victoria CALL Laboratory Research and Development team, which enable you to create interactive Web-based exercises of six basic types. Yahoo's Web Graphics Links provides links to graphics for all occasions, including pictures, buttons, backgrounds, lines, icons and more. A few simple graphic elements can change boring text into an compelling web page.
