A wide range of resources is available to the K-12 foreign language, bilingual education, and ESL teacher.

Cortland's Foreign Language Teaching Forum and Janus005 are examples of resources, especially helpful to subject matter teachers. Sending e-mail to Janus will give you access to a Less Commonly Taught Languages newsgroup (i.e., not English, French, German or Spanish).

George Washington University houses the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education. It sponsors a listserv with a weekly online newsletters--a great resource for single ELD teachers in a school, especially during a decade when controversy swirls around this field.

At Dave's ESL Cafe is a collection of on-line forums, quizzes, quotes, slang and much more for ESL/ELD teachers.

The creator of ESLCafe has now compiled his experiences and resources into a book, The Internet Guide for English Language Teachers. While the information on the Internet itself is typical, the sections on resources for English As A Second Language are comprehensive and interesting. An address book has been added to the site so ESL teachers can share resources.

Everything ESL also will not become recognized for innovative uses of technologies. It is, on the other hand, very comprehensive; it includes over 100 downloadable activities, for instance. Until the Web it was nearly impossible to locate many such resources, let alone in one index for comparison and selection.

A monthly 'zine, including updated links, for Teachers of English as a Second Language, is published at the Internet TESL Journal.

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is the professional association for all teachers. You will find up-to-date information on controversial issues at this site.

For Californians, in particular, a new home page for Hmong folks has been created.

CAL, a non-profit, integrates new findings in linguistics with updates in science education.

It emphasizes primary source material rather than information about teaching language. For instance, you will find stores, sports, musuems, and games. It highlights the Latin American Resource Center at Tulane which offers a lending library, kits, and videos which are loaned for free.
