Classroom Connect introduces teachers to the Internet via a variety of resources. For example, you can attend conferences or seminars at a location near your school; sessions might include Web page design or creating multimedia products with Hyperstudio.Several publications contain compilations of classroom activities, including books, videos, and diskettes.Resources are available by single subjects as well as guidebooks for integrating the Internet into all classroom activities.Most of the resources are ready-to-use.Procedures for student use of the Internet are outlined in other products.A training program for staff development can be purchased.Another set is devoted to writing technology grants and building community support.Finally, Classroom Connect's Web site draws teachers in with interactive activities, such as a cafe, a click to a Faculty Lounge, and a monthly newsletter. Once a faculty has acquired these basics progress can be made towards advanced projects, such as telecollaboration and publishing.Often in a rush to get to the fun stuff such basics are glossed over; later teachers realize their lack of understanding and find it hard to backtrack.Another typical situation occurs when one or two teachers in a school are carrying the torch by themselves.Students become confused.Note that these sites do not treat hardware or facilities needed.Materials are aimed at different constituencies within a school but little is offered about building school-community networks, often necessary cost-saving and integration needs.
