The primary audience for the Internet Society is internauts. For computer technology specialists, in particular, some of their activities, posted on the site, are pertinent and easy to access to keep uptodate on standards, policies and such. This group is sprinkled with international flavors, too. Their main conference, INET, has revolved around educational themes from time to time, although this year the focus is on security. A reasonable selection of links is available.

The Internet and Web have grown so exponentially that identifying the valuable sites for educators, particularly in the technical area, can be overwhelming. We suggest that you select just a few sites which encompass major news and offer digests. Searchable online journals are another avenue because you can scan for general items and zoom in on areas of particular interest.

Keeping abreast of such fast-breaking developments could consume all of your time. On the other hand, if you don't stay on top of these advances--in this case, from the point of view of the technologists themselves-- then the profession will be sidelined and constantly in the position of catchup. Fortunately, telecommunications makes such forays easier than in the past; you don't have to leave your desk!
