The AERA which draws about 9000 participants to its annual conference is the largest research organization in the educational community. Its divisions span methods and segments of the educational community, and the SIGs cover an array of topics from reading to John Dewey to women in education. Its journals are dedicated to research and commentary and sometimes relevant national news. Increasingly, the annual conference offerings have expanded its strand in technology and education, like the last blip in the 60's and 70's when CAI was in vogue.

During the annual conference discussions of issues are conducted online. Organizers call this opportunity Virtual Conference. For more information email AERA-VC-Request@UNB.CA.

Many of AERA's publications are now online. Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis often contains articles which are relevant to program and project development at district and school sites (one might say the practical implementation of ed research).

Research reports in its formal publications are carefully scrutinized and peer reviewed and sometimes alternative interpretations are presented. AERA's publications constitute the authoritative source.
