Over 2,100 carefully selected and annotated resources will propel you into the center of telecommunications action in education on the Web. Like an IMC in the real world, you will find...
- tools for planning, using and managing your own environment,
- a solid foundation for supporting standards and assessment practices,
- classroom projects, lessons, units, field trips, extended studies, international databases in almost any subject and across subjects,
- references and contests for students,
- multimedia creation and samples,
- professional development and publishing opportunities,
- tips for school, family and community partnerships, public groups and private industry, and
- space to conference with colleagues
In the K-12 Instructional Media Center (K12IMC) the rooms, sections and shelves are chock full of the best-of-breed for designing, implementing and refreshing electronic learning communities.
For a preview, click on the room icons (see below). A dynamically generated outline of the contents will appear. Check the "What's New" icon atthe bottom of any page for the latest updates and additions to K12IMC.org.
Begin at the Information sign for helpful aides--suggestions for best use of this site and a catalog, outline, and search mechanism. The Plan Book provides traditional curriculum and assessment structures and special advice unique to virtual learning environments, like preparing a digital portfolio that merges online and offline work samples. |
|
The Classroom Treasures and Multimedia Rooms showcase classroom projects and resources; most items were either not accessible or not possible prior to this new wave in telecommunications. Entries are organized by type of resource in a particular subject rather than the more typical, lengthy alphabetical listings at other Web sites.. This panoply of resources spans fascinating databases, treks around the world, interdisciplinary studies with cross-links, new technology-enabled learning content, and tools and multimedia creation, just to mention a few of the goodies. |
|
The shelves in the Student Stuff rooms include a reference desk and online and collaborative notebooks, 'zines and exhibits for world-wide recognition of student work, and a safe hangout corner. |
|
In the Professional Development Room, locate tips for school improvement and examples of virtual schools; browse a kiosk at which conferences, workshops, online courses, recommended books, announcements and affinity group links are posted; and discover exchange and publication opportunities via a variety of telecommunication vehicles. |
|
In the School-Home and School-Community rooms are case studies of networks and model programs which integrate schools, homes, businesses, and public service agencies. |
|
Join colleagues in the Conference Center. Select the vehicle, best suited to your agenda and budget, from a small list of recommended methods. |
|
Create a project with your colleagues in the Work Room. |
The seed collection focuses on broad-based, multi-disciplinary Environmental Studies. Each entry is accompanied by descriptions and annotations. The sampling was culled from diverse agencies and information channels and includes materials for students of all ages and capabilities. Valuable offline and software references are cited, too.
