From ZDNet you can download Adobe, Shockwave and Real Audio--software plug-ins which allow a richer display of science models and investigations than the "flatter" software and browsers. These enhancements have become routine capabilities in many sites.
Allegiant's tools for pcs and macs are free currently (Mar97).Roadster, for instance, sidesteps complex HTML creation and multiple plug-ins. More importantly,all forms of multimedia can be played back over the Web and loaded locally to conserve bandwidth.Supercard is similar to Hypercard and Hyperstudio with a little more flexibility but without the classroom support materials.
The Awesome Library is primarily a collection of links. It does include sites for obtaining free animations and other art for use on Web sites. Since it is designed for schools, it can be considered a "safe" site.
Annotation
These sites lack guidance for usage but the demos are interesting and could be shown for a variety of science topics. Being able to download these multimedia enhancements for free is a real bonus.
