Broderbund's Kid Pix and Kid Pix 2 for beginning multimedia artists (telephone) offers 50 wacky brushes, 3D blocks, multicolor screen patterns, and sound-emitting stamps and musical accomaniments. Kids can choreograph digital puppets. Words shake, rattle and roll. This software is so enticing you will need to set limits. Broderbund has also released PrintShop for older students.
For advanced students Adobe's Photoshop imparts incredible knowledge of solid geometry (such as "shadows"), color spectrum, mapping and perspective, light and filters via altering photos. Productions are coffeetable artwork--they are that good.The Adobe Tutorial Online will bring folks up to speed! Here, the synergy between art and science and math is outstanding. Students can also learn to produce charts and graphs and maps, another set of critical visualization and research skills in many school curriculum frameworks.
PicoCricket, brought to you by the imaginationists at MIT, are designed for creating art with colored lights, sound, music, and motion.
