These sites refer respectively to Project Galaxy, World Classroom Network, and Learning Circles (the last was originally developed by AT&T and is now managed by I*EARN). Each has drawn in many classrooms for expanding telecollaboration from national to international networks.
Galaxy offers multimedia materials and AT&T-I*EARN developed a Learning Circles program, addressing schooltowork skills, for example. Since each operates differently depending upon the capacities of your site, it is best to seek further information directly from their specialists.
The Peg site illustrates an adaptation of the I*EARN projects in Australia. I*EARN also sponsors an international meeting each July at which workshops, spanning many topics of telecommunications/networked learning are presented. Since I*EARN links schools in many countries around the world, it serves as a dynamic current events clearinghouse for interactive, online student participation.
TakingItGlobal, founded by two young Canadians, addresses the new generation, enmeshed in globalization. They rely on video technology for interactivity around the world and, thus, spur these projects into the next generation.
Annotation
These organizations were among the first groups to offer school telecollaboration via their commercial equipment. The learning resources are high quality. Since their inception, however, alternatives in the networked world have emerged. We suggest that perusing many possibilities will enable you to select the most appropriate offerings for your setting.
