Co-VIS, an NSF testbed project, was a consortium of 45 high schools, the Exploratorium in San Francisco and Northwestern and the University of Illinois among others. It maintains 2 servers, one for K12 project-based inquiry classes in network science and the general telecollaboration community, and another for the scientific community, especially atmospheric studies. The specialty of Co-VIS was collaboration software for student notebooks in which networked databases are presented and can be manipulated in graphical formats that enhance understanding.

Annotation

Serious research studies have demonstrated that visualization aids comprehension. Unlike traditional graphs, these displays are interactive and modifiable for individual projects.
