A photo tells 1000 words, goes the saying. Digital photography is just taking off but the equipment may still be out of reach financially for many people.
On this page are links to two of the best photo documentarians in 20th century American history.
Both Gordon Parks and Dorthea Lange begin their record of American life during the Great Depression. Both photographers used black and white so their work is more "gritty" than we view today.
Remember the age of the most famous migrant mother, taken by Lange, is 32.
