The Earth, Sea and Sky

Earth & Sky ''broadcasts'' on both radio stations and over the Web...

Earth & Sky "broadcasts" on both radio stations and over the Web. Each report is about 2 minutes. The site also sponsors contests and directions for students to produce their own radio shows. Posters and other goodies are available for classrooms.

"Forces of Nature" by National Geographic links volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes for their commonalities and differences.

A simple sandbox with windows on the sides can be used to illustrate Earth's geology.

The NSF initiative brings new telecommunications power to classrooms. While several cable networks offer audio-video programs, often television is really a better and far less costly medium than the Web. However, sometimes the cable stations will offer real-time programs, such as national meetings, to which students would have no television access. Tpoint by providing audio up-to-the-minute climate data in real-time across the Web, ie. the whole globe, accomplishes what regular radio stations, limited to geographic boundaries, cannot.
