One of the most ambitious projects in environmental studies, this initiative involves many university-school partnerships, each with a different focus. Telecommunications provides the glue for connections among the projects. A newsletter and Scientists-On-Line are available. The lead agency for GLOBE is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA; mail to 1825 Connecticut Ave. NW#317, Washington,DC, 20235). Some, like NOAA, offer online interviews of renowned experts by students. Most projects are under construction and will be pulled together by TERC (Cambridge MA). The latest addition to their telecollaboration projects is Ruby Throat, special measurement protocols that match hummingbird ecology and behavior across North and Central America. Students are serving as international naturalists!
The evaluation is being conducted by SRI International (Menlo Park CA). As of fall 2001 this innovative curriculum can be purchased publicly on the open market.

Action BioScience, geared towards high school students, contains lessons and links on crucial topics in biodiversity and ecoliving, including genomics. The Web site itself is not technologically fancy but offers collections of articles which would be almost impossible to amass by yourself.
